Most things you might take for ADD increase one or more of four chemicals in the brain, dopamine, serotonin, epinephrine and norepiniphrine. The problem that each person with ADD may need a different medication depending on what the brain is lacking.
As far as Wellbutrin goes, it's easy on, easy off with few side effects and/or side effects that lessen or go away entirely once you've been on it a couple of months. It's not a bad place to start with ADD. FWIW, Wellbutrin is a dopamine re-uptake inhibitor; in other words it increases dopamine in the brain.
Permalink Reply by JP on February 24, 2012 at 12:18am I have been taking anti-depressants for ADD for 2 mos.No serious problems for me, so far. 300 mg. Wellbutrin and something called Tenex to strengthen it. I just am experiencing mild tinnitus. This is not working for me nearly as well as I have hoped and my symptoms are annoying. I used to take Strattera, but had terrible nausea, so it is better than that.

Permalink Reply by Red on March 1, 2012 at 8:04pm I take and AD(Effexor) as well as Strattera for my ADD and it helps alot! I suffer from extreme withdrawal when I miss a dose of my AD medicine- it is brutal. When I started my AD's I had no problems at all. Hope this helps.

Wellbutrin, or the generic Bupropion, also affects the norepiniphrine in the brain as well as the serotonin.
