I'm 68, a retired RN, a Nam vet, disabled and have some health issues. I have MS (32 years), Hepatitis C (12 years), Chronic Severe Kidney Disease (5 years), osteo arthritis of the spine and I have ADHD. I will be married 31 years, March 15. My husband also has ADHD.

We live in the desert and run a 501(c)3 non-profit, no-kill animal sanctuary for animals with special needs and/or elderly.  We take in pets, farm and exotic animals. We rescue abuse, abandoned, neglected and owner surrender animals. Most were facin' euthanasia when we took them in. They are on medications, treatments and frequent visits to the vet. Some have behavioral issues. They are non-adoptable and this is their last home on earth. We try to make them comfortable, loved and wanted. I don't believe that an animal should be thrown away or euthanized, just because they are not "profitable' or perfect". We've been doin' this for 29 years and I will do it until I dead. Our sanctuary is called Snakes 'n' Critters Animal Sanctuary (google the sanctuary).

I have learned to see ADHD as a gift, to be positive, to believe its a good day, because I woke up in the mornin'. As with my other health issues, ADHD is a part of me, but not me. I love to write stories about the animals, do counted cross stitch, latch hook. But my main thing are the animals, to watch them, play with them and "be" with them. We are a team, my husband hypofocus and I hyperfocus. I'm very glad to have found a community with others that have ADHD and to learn all I can. I am a faithful fan of Tara and listen to all her radio broadcasts, go to all her webinars, etc.

I would love to meet others in the community, but forgive me if I don't get here very often. It's a lot of work to tend the animals. We are full right now, with 40 and only my husband and me to take care of them all (feed, clean, give medicine, treatments, exercise, etc.) and he works fulltime and what overtime he can get, to help pay for the animals needs. Forgive an old lady, who talks too much.luv, Cougar

Well, things are always changin'. It's hard to get bored when ya have ADHD, lol. Today is our anniversary. We've been married 31 years. Purty good for a may-december relationship of 17 years. I'll be 69 in August, he'll be 52 in July. So we planned it all out weeks ago. We told everyone that we wanted to be alone (rarely happens when ya run a sanctuary) all day. We would do what has to be done and no more! We'd take our leisure time, eat a steak supper, watch a movie (we have netflix) and who knows what else (we ain't dead yet, tehee). It was gonna be our day together and he has the day off. Did I mention we both have ADHD. He hypofocus and I hyperfocus, so I guess it evens out somehow.

This mornin' came, I checked the weather as usual. Hmm, might have some rain/wind in a couple of days. We started talkin' as we ate breakfast, and fed all the critters. We've attached another trailer to ours, but its not finished, he's been workin' on puttin' a new roof on it. He goes back to work Saturday for 4 days of day shift (yep, he's a shift worker 14-15 hours a day.) As I mentioned rain/wind, he got this wrinkle on his forehead. "Then I better work on the roof some, finish gettin' the wood on and cover it in plastic til I can finish it. It won't take long, then we can relax together and talk (that's what best friend do and we've always been best friends), okay?"  I nodded, thinkin' that won't take him long and I do have alot of email and sanctuary business I need to take care of online. I'll do that while he works on the roof. As I was doin' some of the email, I came across some recipes that I just had to copy and save, so I did that. As I was doin' that, I  thought, I really need to get the laundry started, so he'll have clean clothes when he goes back to work, so I stopped just long enough to put a load in the washer. By then it was time  to give all the snakes fresh water. Bang, bang, he shor was makin' the noise on the roof. The puppies were scared and runnin' around, soon to climb into my lap (all 3), so I went back to the email, copyin' recipes (I have a laptop). Not an easy feat, with 3 squirmin', scared little dogs, each tryin' to get closer, steppin' on the laptop keyboard now and then, grr!

It's time for lunch, I told him, so he came down and ate then told me he had to go to the store (5 miles a general store, here in the desert) cause he had ran outta screws. He left after he finished eatin'. The frontpack (dogs that come in the trailer when they want) and the birds take a nap and so do I. When he got back, the bangin' and whinin' of the drill began, so much for naps. How much longer are ya gonna be doin' the roof, I asked him. I'm almost finished, he said. It was almost 4pm now. The dogs and birds were awake, the birds wanted their afternoon treat, the dogs wanted to pee. It's time now to get all the animals feed ready, which takes about an hour, since we put supplements, etc. I had taken my afternoon pain pill and thought I would  post in my blog, while I waited for it to take effect. My daughter calls, I had told her I didn't wanna talk to anyone today, it was goin' be "our day". Oh well, he's still on the roof. She had to tell me that she was babysittin' her grandyoungin. Yep, I have great-grandyoungins.

Now, she's off, what was it I was gonna do (still waitin' for the pain med to hit me). I'm tired and hurt and don't feel like doin' anythin' hmm... I have some mp3's that I downloaded that I really need to listen too. I usually play bejeweled or mahjongg while I listen to them. Somehow, it helps me to focus on the mp3 and not get squirmy. He came down for a few minutes, said he's almost done, handed me some Cheto cheese puffs, then off he went, callin' out "Just one more thing and I'm done for the day." Yeah, like I believe that, lol.

Well, that seals the deal. I have my favorite munchy, cheese puffs (easier to eat, when ya don't have any teeth), mp3's and games on my computer. I'll put that

Thanks LuAnn. I've had MS for 33 years now, but if I do have a question, I'll sure give ya a shout. We have all kinds of animals. I'm gonna try to get all their pictures up here eventually. I did put a few up today. My youngest daughter (43) also has MS. I'm on my feet most of the time, but do go from cane to quad cane to walker to electric wheel chair to bed and then I bounce right back up again. My other health issues are also involved, so I quit questionin' what was causin' what, lol. I learned a long time ago how to deal with my ADHD. I have tricks and such to deal with the symptoms and I use the gifts to multitask, to be creative and to think outta the box. I became almost proud of havin' ADHD when I found out that all artists, musicians, inventors, writers, etc. also had some form of it too (Einstein, Mozart, Picasso, etc.). luv, Cougar

My dream is to have an animal sanctuary for dogs and cats! I live in Denver near the sanctuary in Keenesburg - we visit often. I love seeing the wild animals in their habitat!

FYI - I also work with the National MS Society for the CO-WY chapter and national office. If you have any MS needs or questions, let me know. We are all connected and MS is very close to my heart though I do not have the disease (to my knowledge).

I will keep up with your blog - kudos on your life work!
